It’s that time of year where your social media feeds are flooded with pictures of your family and friends hiking exotic mountains, lounging in overwater suits in places like Bora Bora, swinging from lush treetops in the mountains, or exploring remote seaside caves on the east coast. Meanwhile you are sitting behind your computer dreaming of an adventure of your own. Maybe a far off vacation isn’t for you this year, but why not embrace some of the things you have longed to do in your own town. How about some easy staycation ideas where you embrace the chance to try something new right where you live?
Save Money
Vacations are super expensive. My two day road trip with my little one was hundreds of dollars by the time we finished. Lodging alone was a huge part of the expense. A staycation in your hometown will save you hundreds right off the bat. Saving here will free up your budget to explore that which lies right outside your back door.
Save Travel Time
Many times travel takes two complete days. One to get to your destination and one to get home. Not everyone can take a lot of time off of work, therefore staying close to home for fun will allow you the opportunity to maximize the number of days you have off. A staycation means you can spend more time playing and less time on the road or in a plane. That’s a win right there!
Conquer the “I’ve Always Wanted to…” List
We all have that neighborhood restaurant, park, or activity that we have “always wanted to try.” Well now is your chance! Sit down with the family and make a list of those activities close to home that you haven’t had a chance to explore. You will be surprised at what you can come up with. Once you have your list, search sites like Groupon to see the deals that are currently being offered. This will also likely encourage your creativity and open your eyes to even more staycation ideas near you.
A friend of mine was recently visiting from out of state. We decided to to rent some paddle boards and enjoy the ocean water in the harbor 5 minutes from my house. It was so much fun and so inexpensive. It was great to be outside and we got a great upper body workout in. I can’t believe I had never done it before! Once you make your list, I guarantee you won’t run out of things to do.
